More office space disappears as 24-bed student flats get green light

More office space in Nottingham city centre is to be turned into student flats following the granting of planning permission for a 24-bedroom development.

The scheme, above the Pit and Pendulum pub on Pelham Street on the edge of the Hockley district of the city centre, will be developed by Priory Victoria and will see the first, second and third floors of the building turned into student flats.

A statement for Priory Victoria’s agents, Eastwood-based Zenith Planning and Design, said: “There is very little demand for the type of office accommodation that the Victorian commercial buildings provide and such buildings are likely to remain vacant and suffer from long term lack of maintenance without a viable alternative use.

“In spite of the number of conversions that have taken place in recent years there is still considerable demand for residential accommodation within the City Centre and this is a popular area with younger tenants.”

Priory Victoria’s directors are named as James Fairweather and Paul O’Shea. Both have correspondence addresses in Nottingham.
