Derbyshire pub named in CAMRA’s top 16

A DERBYSHIRE inn has been crowned Regional pub of the year and named among the top 16 in the country by the Campaign for Real Ale’s (CAMRA) latest edition of its Good Beer Guide.

The guide – which features a wide range of pubs from community owned to micropubs – forms part of the nationwide search for the National Pub of the Year.

Having been awarded the honour, The Old Oak Inn at Horsley Woodhouse will now compete against 15 other regional winners for the title of National Pub of the Year.

The traditional pub boasts four rooms of differing character, some of which are complete with open fires and was described as “homely, welcoming and excellent value for money” by CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide.

Co-owner of the family-run pub Roger Warren said: “We’re always delighted to be recognised by CAMRA because we do fully support its aims and objectives and it just fits in nicely with what we do here and how we operate.”

The wet led pub – which was set up in conjunction with Leadmill Brewery – prides itself on providing good beer, warm fires in the winter and occasionally, live acoustic music. The Old Oak also has an extra “country bar” which serves up an additional eight beers for weekend customers.

He said: “Coming here is definitely a community experience. We are very loyally supported by our local community who also understand that for all sorts of reasons we must attract people from far and wide, and people do come from far and wide and they’re very welcome and very soon engage.

“That’s one of the nice things we like about this pub, is that people engage each other but it’s not all jolly, if you want to sit alone in the corner you’re quite welcome to. And it works for us and our customers on that level,” he added.
