TheBusinessDesk hits 20,000 milestone

THEBUSINESSDESK.COM has reached 20,000 registered users making us the fastest growing business media in the North.

The milestone has been achieved just 19 months after the launch of the service in Yorkshire and 10 months after the launch of our new service in the North West last September which now has 8,000 registered users.

A majority of business leaders, executives and professionals now turn to TheBusinessDesk.com for their daily update of regional business news.

TheBusinessDesk.com became the first free regional online business news service in the UK when it launched in November 2007 and we have had 3.5m page views since then.

Uniquely users can choose to receive daily e-mail or text alerts, which arrive before 9am every working day, direct to their desktop, mobile phone, PDA or BlackBerry.

TheBusinessDesk.com was launched in Yorkshire in November 2007 by former Yorkshire Post business editor David Parkin with the backing of a number of entrepreneurs and Yorkshire Bank.

Former MEN Business Editor Chris Barry joined in late October 2008 to lead the North West team.

He said: “We’re thrilled with our growth rate and the positive response to the site from the business communities we serve. The emphasis has always been on the quality of our audience, not the quantity. So to achieve the figure of 20,000 registered users who are in senior roles in business in Yorkshire and the North West is a milestone we are absolutely delighted with.”

Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the North West Development Agency says TheBusinessDesk.com is a key part of his media mix: “It provides a powerful combination of daily news bulletins, together with breaking news alerts to provide first rate communications for the region’s business audience.

“I’ve signed up to the daily e-bulletin; it is a really useful tool.”

Alan White, the chief executive of North West home shopping giant N Brown, added: “I find The Business Desk.com is first to my in-box with business announcements regarding local companies.

“It is proving to be a valuable and easy source of news to keep me right up to date with developments around the region.”
