Dutch mail group to triple processing capacity at its Haydock delivery hub

Dutch mail, parcel and e-commerce company PostNL’s international subsidiary, Spring GDS, will triple daily processing capacity at its hub at Haydock to 25,000 items a day.

The move will speed up processing and dispatch times into the EU for the company’s customers in the North and Scotland, providing later cut-offs and longer order hours for many.

The move comes just months after the official opening of Spring GDS’s new UK hub at London Heathrow.

The company said it further demonstrates Spring GDS’s strong commitment to the UK, including meeting demand from strong commerce hubs such as Manchester,  which local bodies have dubbed the ‘eCommerce powerhouse that has nurtured several of the UK’s homegrown retail tech unicorns including The Hut Group’.

Operating at the cutting edge of global e-commerce, it also has the potential to power a reshoring trend that Cap Gemini Research said would see 59% of British respondents planning to upgrade or expand manufacturing capabilities in the UK and Europe between now and 2028.

Kelly van der Weg, managing director of Spring Global Delivery Solutions UK, said: “In these unusual times, the UK has the potential to become a still more important hub for international e-commerce providers seeking routes into Europe and the USA.

“Together with our new Heathrow facility, increased capacity at Haydock will help us to continue to untap potential for our ambitious customer base in important e-commerce centres – whether they are transporting apparel, wool or even golf equipment.”
