Ainscough relaunches £6m Swinton Eco Park

AINSCOUGH Properties is set to unveil its newly-rebranded Junction Eco Park in Salford today following a £6m investment.

The business, which is owned by former Ainscough Crane Hire directors Martin, Brendan & James Ainscough, has transformed the 45-acre former Enersys factory site in Swinton and aims to attract further employment in sustainable industries.

The firm bought the site in 2008 and has repositioned it as a base for firms involved in the recycling industry. In December 2010 it landed a major letting to waste management firm Roydon, which has taken 130,000 sq ft of space at the site.

A formal launch ceremony for the park takes place today with the Myor of Salford Cllr Eric Burgoyne attending as guest of honour. A new onsite Social Enterprise Centre, which will be free to use for registered social enterprisies, will also bew opened by local MP Hazel Blears.

Ainscough Properties founder Martin Ainscough said: “Before we acquired the site it was in real danger of seeing sustainable jobs disappear altogether. We are therefore delighted to have played a part in turning its fortunes around, attracting new jobs and investment in the face of a tremendously difficult economic climate.

“Junction Eco Park forms part of a wider area which has been identified through the emerging Greater Manchester Waste Plan as being suitable to accommodate a variety of waste facilities.

“Our long term ambition is to bring forward flagship proposals in accordance with the Greater Manchester Waste Plan policies and we are committed to continuing to working together with the City Council to achieve this.

“This is a golden opportunity to help shape this traditionally entrepreneurial part of Salford – to ensure that its successful turnaround can be continued and the undoubted potential can be fulfilled.”

More than 20 units at the site have already been let. More than 20 units at the site have already been let, with several taken by new start-ups and others occupied by firms – such as Roydon and Carlick Contract Furniture – that have relocated to the area.
