Vistry Group has acquired a site in Moreton, Wirral, where it will deliver a 100% affordable housing scheme consisting of 124 homes.

This brownfield site, near to the town centre, was acquired from the Wirral Growth Company, a joint venture between Muse and Wirral Council. It was previously occupied by various council buildings along Pasture Road.

The site benefits from detailed consent for a Lidl supermarket and outline permission for 124 units.

Part of the housing element is an 80-room affordable extra care scheme, which may be operated by specialist care provider, Alpha RSL.

Additionally, Magenta Living will be managing 44 two-, three- and four-bed homes, nine of which will be available for affordable rent, with the remaining 35 for shared ownership.

The project, a key part of Wirral Council’s overarching spatial strategy, is being supported by Homes England grant funding and through allocations from Liverpool Combined Authority’s Brownfield Land Fund.

Gemma Hardy, managing director, at Vistry Merseyside and Cheshire West, said: “This mixed-use development will have a regenerative impact on the area.

“Not only will it provide much needed affordable homes, but it will also bring broader economic advantages.

“Additionally, the extra care units will help alleviate pressure on local NHS services, ensuring that the benefits of this development are far reaching.”

It is anticipated that both the supermarket and the homes will take two years to build, with occupation expected early 2027.
