Redesigned £48m hotel scheme gets planning go-ahead

Plans for Hampton by Hilton Manchester Trafford

Blackpool-based Create Developments has received planning consent for its £48m Hampton By Hilton hotel in Trafford.

Specialists in turn-key hotel and residential developments, Create will be completing the new Hampton by Hilton hotel project with its sister company, Create Construction.

Following feedback from the initial planning application, which was turned down, Create redesigned the seven storey, 147-bedroom hotel to address concerns from the public and committee, by lowering its height and increasing car parking and external landscaping.

Hampton by Hilton is an internationally recognised hotel brand. With easy access from Lostock’s junction nine of the M60 and the comprehensive transport network beyond, the new hotel will be adjacent to Trafford Park’s 1,330 businesses and the Trafford Centre.

The hotel will offer accommodation to visitors of other nearby attractions such as the Chill Factore indoor ski centre, Event City, Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Manchester United FC, Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground, AJ Bell Stadium and many other leisure attractions, and is just five miles from Manchester city centre and 10 miles from Manchester Airport.

Following extensive discussions with the planners, the hotel will be predominantly brick-faced, influenced by the architecture of traditional mills associated with the North West of England.

The hotel’s interior design scheme will offer a bright and modern look, to meet the increasing demand for high quality hotel accommodation from Hilton Honors guests, as well as other business and tourist visitors. The ambience will also reflect the rich industrial and sporting heritage of the area.

The car park and public realm around the hotel have been designed to provide as much landscaping and natural habitat as possible to soften the aesthetics of the building. Create Developments have been working with Trafford Housing Trust, local resident associations and Friends of Lostock Park to introduce new community facilities around the nearby residential tower block and within Lostock Park for the enjoyment of the public.

Paul Mathison, Create Developments CEO, said: “As experts in hotel development, we are delighted to be working with Hilton once again. Our first Hampton by Hilton hotel development in Blackpool has been so successful that we are now planning an extension to double its footprint.

“This new development project in Trafford comes at an exciting period of growth, when Manchester is experiencing a phenomenal construction boom.

“We are very excited to be starting on site soon. This substantial £48m project comes at a time where growth and investment will be key in our bounce-back from the pandemic. The approval of the new plans will also help to protect and create new construction jobs and apprenticeships, as well as deliver over 40 new hospitality jobs for local people.”

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton, said: “We’re pleased to be extending our partnership with Create Developments – the arrival of Hampton by Hilton Manchester Trafford will be another impressive addition to Hilton’s growing portfolio in the North West.”

Create Construction will begin building works in the third quarter of 2021, with a build duration of 75 weeks.
