Deal done for housing scheme on former Warrington RLFC stadium site

A deal has been concluded with housebuilder, Edwards Homes, for the site of Warrington RLFC’s former Wilderspool stadium.
The company, based in Ewloe, near Chester, has completed the conditional exchange of the site with Wire Regeneration, the joint venture between Warrington Borough Council and development and property management business Langtree.
Bevan Mews forms part of the Southern Gateway masterplan, which Wire Regeneration is delivering.
The 5.47-acre site off Wilderspool Causeway includes a 20% affordable housing requirement and is accessed from Fletcher Street.
John Downes, Langtree executive director-development, said: “This will make an important contribution to Warrington’s housing needs and adds further momentum to our plans for the wider area.”
Will Rees, of property advisors Legat Owen, who acted for the buyer said: “Edwards Homes are a great fit for this regeneration site, having successfully developed out a number of brownfield sites in the region.
“They are now working up their reserved matters application and are looking forward to contributing to the regeneration of the Southern Gateway site.”
Work is nearing completion on the multimillion-pound refurbishment of neighbouring St James Business Centre, with the town’s former bus depot next door to St. James now cleared and ready for development.
Edwards Homes will now seek reserved matters consent for the site, which will address issues such as façade treatments and road layouts.
