Peel gains approval for Chatham Waters

PEEL Group has been granted planning approval for a £650m development at Chatham Docks in Kent.

The outline approval to transform a brownfield site into a mixed-use scheme containing offices, exhibition space, an education facility, hotel, apartments, foodstore and a number of townhouses has been approved by Medway Council.

Peel estimates that once the scheme is complete, it could create up to 3,500 jobs.
James Whittaker, development director at Peel, said: “We’re delighted that Medway Council has approved outline plans for ‘Chatham Waters’.

“It will breathe new life into a significant area of the dockland and give the region a real economic boost.

“We will now evolve the plans further and continue to work with the council and consult with the residents of Chatham to ensure we deliver a scheme the community is proud of. We will also start preparing detailed plans for the first phase and we hope to be start building on the site next year.”

The firm has been advised on the scheme by Manchester-based 5Plus Architects and Altrincham-based landscaping specialists Planit ie alongside planning consultancy Indigo and Traffic Transport & Highway Consultancy.
