Ixis lands £1.2m British Council contract

WARRINGTON web developer Ixis has secured a £1.2m contract to overhaul the British Council’s online presence.

The Daresbury-based firm, which specialises in the open-source web platform Drupal, will host the agency’s websites for the next four years and has designed a new content management system.

The work covered the British Council’s 110 country websites and 150 project websites, as well as the corporate homepage and landing pages. The sites generate 10 million unique visits and 100 million page views every three months.

Peter Edwards, content management system manager for the British Council said: “Like a number of public service organisations today, we acknowledged the vital role of digital in our growth plans, especially with budgets increasingly tightened.

“We have worked with Ixis before and know they have always delivered. Its professional monitoring has been very impressive at flagging security threats, which is so important for an organisation like the British Council, especially when there are professional hackers targeting government and public sector sites every day.

“Not only have we seen 100% uptime from the new platform but it’s four times faster than the previous instance, which is so important for us.”

Co-founder of Ixis, Chris Haslam said: “After supporting various Drupal projects within British Council for several years, it’s great to be selected to work on this web project which is one of the largest projects we’ve worked on to date.”
