Asons upbeat on prospects after strong results

FAST-growing law firm Asons is to increase its focus on industrial disease and clinical negligence claims after reporting strong financial results.

The Bolton-based firm, run by brothers,  lawyer Kamran and chief executive Imran Akram, saw turnover rise 21% in the year to the end of May from £7.99m to £9.6m. In what the firm said was “another successful year”, profits rocketed from £180,716 to £308,459.

In March firm took an additional 3,000sq ft on the ground floor at its office at 120 Bark Street to meet future recruitment needs.

Currently employing 160 people, the firm, which agreed a funding deal with HSBC last year, said at the time it was looking to hire up to 140 people.

In his directors’ report, Kamran Akram, the sole director of the company said: “As for many firms of solicitors, the business environment in which we operate will continue to be challenging in light of the recent implementation of the Jackson Reforms.

“Asons Solicitors have adapted to these changes by focusing efforts into increasing the proportion of industrial disease and clinical negligence work, which is more resilient to the Jackson Reforms.

“We have also increased the size of our litigation department to conduct more volume litigation work which is more cost bearing.

The director and other key members of the management team anticipate strong growth in the current year with further increases in turnover and profitability.”

Asons recent growth this year saw Imran Akram shortlisted for in the ‘Emerging Entrepreneur’ category in prestigious EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards.

Externally the firm supports several local charities – it has recently become a patron for Bolton Hospice and also sponsors Headway Brain Injury.
