Cavern Walks sold for £4.1m

The Cavern Quarter

LIVERPOOL’S Cavern Walks Shopping Centre, which includes the Cavern Club venue, fetched £4.1m at auction yesterday.

The Matthew Street building, which has 23 retail units and 80,000 sq ft of office space, was sold from a guide price of £1m.

The identity of the buyer was not known at the time of publication.

The Cavern Club attracts Beatles fans from all over the world, although it is not the club where the group made their name, but a replica in a neighbouring basement. The original was bulldozed in the 1970s.

The current owners of the Cavern Club business stressed that it was not part of the sale which only involved the freehold on the building.

It was auctioned in London by Allsop Commercial which was acting for Philip Bowers and Neville Kahn of Deloitte who were appointed administrators of Cavern Walks’ owner, Warner Estate Holdings, in August.

Confirmation of the sale price was provided by the Essential Information Group’s commercial property database.
