Addleshaws exodus continues as Hamilton and Corner depart

TWO more long-serving Manchester-based partners at top law firm Addleshaw Goddard have left, it emerged today.

Senior corporate partner Tim Hamilton and banking partner Helen Corner have both departed in the last week, the firm confirmed.

The latest exits follow hard on the heels of those of transactions services chief Andrew Chamberlain, whose move to DWF to become national head of employment, emerged last week, and three real estate partners, Mark Haywood, Nathan Jansen and Monica Brij, who are to launch a new Manchester office for national firm Nabarro.

Both Mr Hamilton and Miss Corner have been with the firm for more than a decade.

Tim Hamilton was previously managing partner of Andersen Legal before joining Addleshaw’s corporate team in April 2002.

A heavyweight corporate lawyer he was involved in a number of major private equity deals during this time, including ISIS’ investment in Altrincham call centre and data firm LBM.

He was then appointed to a more senior role as head of Client and Markets at the firm, where he implemented a key account programme to ensure its top 20 clients were well serviced and retained. He left this role to return to corporate deal advisory in May 2013.

Helen Corner trained with Manchester firm Foysters (now DWF) and qualified in 1985, and worked for several other firms before joining what was then called Addleshaw Booth as a partner in 1999.

Addleshaws, which has an enviable client base and is a permanent fixture in the top tier of commercial law firms in publications such as Legal 500, is said by insiders to be a state of flux, with tensions between partners in the London office and those in Manchester and Leeds – Addleshaws’ traditional heartlands.

The firm has just appointed a new managing partner, John Joyce, who replaced Paul Devitt in the leadership role.
