UKTI encourages exporters to embrace new markets

UK Trade and Investment is running a number of events during Export Week to encourage companies to target new markets.

Regional director Clive Drinkwater says the North West’s economy could grow by £2bn if each existing exporter found one new market.

The events will cover Europe, America, the Middle East and Asia, concentrating on opportunities and trade tactics in each of these markets, with advice on everything from freight forwarding to finance.

Blackpool lighting firm Chelsom has been announced as one of the 2015-16 Export Champions for UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) North West, taking the regional total to 60.

The business joins TISS, also from Blackpool, EP International from Burnley, Chemical Innovations from Preston, Chorley-based Scorpion Automotive and Tangerine Holdings from Lytham as new Lancashire Export Champions.

Mr Drinkwater said: “The Export Champions are companies who have already experienced the challenges and the benefits that exporting brings, and who have become stronger and more resilient as a result. I am thrilled that so many of them have agreed to join us, bringing the total of Export Champions in the region to an impressive 60. With so many companies taking part there will be a wealth of inspiration for new exporters.”

The UK is aiming to increase exports to £1 trillion by 2020, and the government wants an extra 100,000 companies exporting by then.
