Stockport approves office plan for Lamborghini showroom

PLANS for a 70,000 sq ft headquarters building for Stockport Homes on the site of the town’s Lamborghini dealership have been approved.
Quorum Estates, the Wilmslow-based landlord, previously won consent for 65 apartments at the site in Edward Street, next to Stockport town hall, but the scheme stalled.
Stockport Homes, which manages former council housing stock in the borough, wants to bring together 450 staff at a new building who currently work across four offices.
Quorum’s previous consent included the retention of the car showroom’s facade, which was built in the 1920s for the Hollingdrakes dealership, but it will now be demolished to make way for a four-storey block.
The showroom is operated by luxury car dealer HR Owen which is said to be relocating within the area when a lease expires at the end of the year.
Roger Phillips, Stockport Homes’ chair, said “Panning permission for the new head office marks a new and exciting chapter for Stockport Homes. This new space will enable us to embrace more modern, flexible and efficient methods of working whilst providing a central location for staff, but more importantly, improved facilities for our customers.”
The new building has been designed by AEW Architects and NJL Consulting provided planning advice.
AEW managing director Steve Burne said: “We have been working with Quorum on this site for over 10 years and are delighted to now be able deliver such an exciting scheme. The sensitive location of the site within the conservation area and next to the magnificent Town Hall has led to a design which responds to the context and will add to the civic feel of the area.”
