Big engine deal for Runcorn company

RUNCORN-based industrial engine specialist James Troop & Co has secured a  six-figure deal to supply new engines to Speke based hydraulic equipment supplier Yuken.

Family-run James Troop is an official supplier and service centre for some of the world’s biggest engine manufacturers including Volvo Penta, MTU, MAN Diesel and Daihatsu.

It was tasked with supplying four Volvo Penta D8 235kw engines for Yuken to fit at its Speke Hall Industrial Estate headquarters.

James Troop managing director Bob Troop said the deal was particularly significant as it showcased the company’s ability to supply industrial engines as well as the ship engine market in which it is well established.

“We held some discussions with Yuken last year regarding the kilowatt output required for its land-based applications,” he said.

“Based on those discussions we were able to come up with a solution that not only met Yuken’s needs but met the new EU emissions standards.

“The engines are now in Yuken’s Liverpool base. The emissions standards changed dramatically for variable speed engines last October. But, by employing selective catalytic reduction technology, we were able to not just advise Yuken on the new standards but to engineer a solution for them.”
