The AA sells Lancs-based windscreens business

THE AA has sold its Preston-based replacement windscreen business to a rival.

The listed company did not disclose the financial terms of the deal to sell AA AutoWindshields to Chesterfield-based rival Auto Windscreens, but said its 200 staff would be transferred to the new owner as part of the transaction.

In addition, a 10-year partnership arrangement has been reached meaning the AA will continue to use Auto Windscreens to deliver glass repair and replacement services for its members, its business-to-business and insurance customers.

Chris Thornton, managing director of Auto Windscreens said: “There are clear synergies for the two businesses.  We place customer satisfaction at the heart of our business, reflecting the AA’s own customer ethos

“This marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for Auto Windscreens and further reinforces our position as a leader in the industry.  Through a continuing collaboration with the AA we will provide a full windscreen repair and replacement service to their customers and insurance policyholders.”
