Russells wins £10m Salford contract

NORTH West construction firm Russells has won a £10m contract for a mixed-used development in Salford.
The Manchester company will work on the residential and retail phase of LPC Living’s Radclyffe Hall scheme in Ordsall.
The development includes114 homes, a dozen retail units and a Morrisons supermarket.
Designed by Liverpool-based architect Falconer Chester Hall, Radclyffe Hall was granted planning approval from Salford City Council in September.
Russells Construction will deliver the 50,000 sq ft supermarket, a 359-space surface car park, and a mixture of townhouses and apartments. This first phase of development is set for completion in autumn 2011.
Andrew Russell, managing director of Russells Construction said: “It is always very satisfying to win a contract in a tender situation, even more so for a scheme which is set to bring such benefits to the local community.
“I believe we were successful because of our strong credentials in both the retail and residential sectors, and because we have a track record of delivering complex schemes on time and on budget.
“The Radclyffe Park development is an important milestone in the regeneration of Ordsall and one we’re delighted to be involved with.”
Simon Ashdown, development director for LPC Living, said: “With MediaCity:UK on
the doorstep this part of Salford is a hub for new and exciting development at the moment.
“Although MediaCity:UK will be a huge boost in terms of attracting new people to the region, it is equally important to make sure local people have the top class facilities and quality housing that they deserve.”
