SALAD suppier Hazeldene has been given the go-haed for a £1.7m factory expansion, which will create around 25 jobs.

The £32m turnover Wigan company, winner of the town’s business of the year title in 2010, already employs 240 staff.

Managing director Simon Ball, said: ““We’re really pleased about the expansion as not only will it boost the local economy, it also means we are a step closer to our aim of being the preferred choice of ready to eat fresh salad and speciality products.

“Our plans are to expand the factory so that we can install two new lines, bringing the total number up to 10.”

Hazeldene has been based in Wigan for five years. The expansion of the facility is due to be completed by May, at the start of the summer salad season.
