Media Mix: Kenyon Fraser under starter’s orders; Boost for Weber Shandwick; SKV and Staniforth

LIVERPOOL PR agency Kenyon Fraser has been appointed to handle PR for the Grand National.

The  Rodney Street-based consultancy will manage consumer PR for the event in April.

MD Richard Kenyon said: ““You could say we’ve backed another winner. We’ve had a string of new business wins this year – and working to promote one of the world’s best loved sporting events is another significant step for us.

“We have worked with Aintree Racecourse on numerous projects over the years and to be promoting its annual showpiece event is very exciting for us.”

The festival will kick off with its second Liverpool Day on Thursday April 7, followed by Ladies’ Day  culminating in the Grand National on Saturday April 9 – when a global TV audience of 600 million is expected to watch the big race.

WEBER  Shandwick North has been hired by Preston based chemical coatings specialists Incorez to will provide PR support for events, product launches and CSR campaigns.

WSN will be managing the pan-European PR and providing event management at the European Coatings Show 2011 in March, the biggest show in the coating industry. Later this year it will manage the PR and event management around Incorez’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

MANCHESTER PR outfit SKV Communication has been retained by tourism body visitBlackpool to promote the resort’s February Festival including Showzam!  – the UK’s only annual celebration of circus, magic and new variety,  which opened this weekend and runs until next Sunday.

Following on from its work on Showzam! last year , SKV will again be promoting a mixture of ticketed shows, including the water acrobatics spectacle SOAP, alongside a host of magic, variety and cabaret shows, fringe events, street theatre and family activities.

SKV associate director Richard Bond said: “To say that Showzam! and the Blackpool February Festival is slightly unusual in terms of arts and culture PR is an understatement.  But as we discovered last year the concept of a festival dedicated to circus, magic and new variety brings with it a wealth of fantastic PR angles and opportunities.”

PR agency Staniforth will work on the launch of a new hotel brand Bloc.

Bloc Hotels, which is opening its first property in Birmingham, aims to combine the budget hotel price point with the design and quality of a boutique hotel.
