NW Business Masters: Len Collinson vies for Ambassador title

ENTREPRENEUR turned passionate business champion Len Collinson, is in the running for the prestigious North West Business Ambassador award at the North West Business Masters.

During a 50-year business career Mr Collinson has established himself as one of the North West’s most respected business leaders, having led the influential small business lobby group Forum of Private Business and then formed Private Sector Partners, which speaks for more than 140,000 companies.

The finals of TheBusinessDesk.com’s North West Business Masters Awards, sponsored by KPMG, Barclays Corporate and take place on April 7 at The Point at Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Before devoting himself to lobbying for businesses, particularly small firms, he set up and built up Salford-based management consultancy Collinson Grant Group.

He ran the business – which is now led by his son, Andrew, from 1971 until 1996 and is one of the largest owner-managed management consultancies in the UK.

Mr Collinson  is also a visiting professor at the University of Central Lancashire, where he helps shape the University’s growth strategy.

The numerous commissions, committees and bodies he has served include: reviewing the Isle of Man’s employment laws (1984); advising the Rt Hon Harold Lever, when he was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and responsible for small businesses, between 1977-79.

He was a founding director of Manchester Training and Enterprise Council and deputy chair of the North West Regional Assembly.
