Budget shoppers boost McBride

SHAMPOO to mouthwash maker McBride today hailed an increase in sales as more budget conscious shoppers opt for own label goods.
The group, which last September axed around 100 of its 700-strong workforce at sites in Manchester and Warrington, said sales in the three months to end of June are stronger than last year and revenue growth is expected to be around 6% for the fourth quarter.
It added that operating profit before one-off costs and exceptional items for the year to June 2009 is expected to be at least £35m.
McBride said there has been continued strong sales in France and Italy and an improvement in the UK following a number of contract wins.
Full year revenue growth is expected to be 4% as own-label goods continue to gain market share in the UK and Europe, while its net debt will be less than £90m.
Chief executive Miles Roberts said: “We are pleased to have ended the year strongly as demand for our private label offering continues to grow. Our continuing focus on driving operational efficiencies has been reflected in a satisfactory second half and full year operating performance.”
McBride will announce its preliminary results on September 3.
