Stobart and Irlam to step down from haulage giant’s board

STOBART Group has announced that William Stobart and David Irlam are both to step down from the group’s board to concentrate on operations in its core transport and logistics division.

The Warrington-based company said that both would remain as directors of operating subsidiaries, with William Stobart continuing as chief operating officer and Irlam maintaining responsibility for business development.

David Irlam joined the Stobart board following Stobart Group’s £60m acquisition of family firm James Irlam & Sons in 2008.

William Stobart is the brother of the eponymous founder of the Eddie Stobart haulage business.

The firm also announced that Nick Watts and Daniel Dayan will be stepping down from posts as non-executives on the group’s board.

Rodney Baker-Bates, chairman of Stobart Group, said: “The highly competitive and fast moving logistics market demands experience and authority close to the key operating decisions.

“These changes will reinforce our ability to deliver outstanding service at competitive cost to our customers. I would also like to thank both Nick and Daniel for their commitment, guidance and considerable contribution to the board.”
