MIDAS among world elite

MIDAS, Manchester’s inward investment and development agency, has been rated among the best in class in a global survey.

In a world ranking of investment agencies.the agency was one of eight Investment Promotion Intermediaries (IPIs) out of 213 to be acknowledged for excellent performance in the respected Global Investment Promotion Benchmarking (GIPB) review.

MIDAS, ranks alongside peers in Copenhagen, Scotland, Queensland, London, Stockholm, Bogotà in Columbia and Hong Kong in the survey.

All were praised for being the world’s most innovative and customer-focused sub-national agencies.

Colin Sinclair, chief executive of MIDAS, said: “ We’re obviously very proud of the fact that MIDAS has been internationally recognised as one of the best performing investment agencies.

“Our hard work in converting inquiries into investments has ensured that we beat our targets by creating and safeguarding 4,735 jobs and attracting more than 80 UK and foreign direct investments in the city region in 08/09.“

MIDAS has played a key part, along with city council colleagues and tourist board Marketing Manchester in selling the city as a top-class location for business investment.

Among its biggest coups of recent years was luring US financial giant Bank of New York Mellon to invest in Manchester – a move which has created more than 1,000 jobs.
