Business urged to get involved with science centre

THE management of a new further education science centre in Oldham is seeking business sponsors to get involved.
The Regional Science Centre in Oldham, run by Oldham Sixth Form College, will offer a range of further education qualifications when it opens in September.
But it is also being held up as a focal point for science in the town that encourage younger school-age children to take up the subject and forge links with businesses.
Business leaders were invited to an event at the sixth form college last week where they were encouraged to sponsor specific programmes at the £5.5m centre which is a joint venture between Oldham Partnership, Oldham Council and the University Campus Oldham.
Jayne Clarke, principal at the sixth form college, said: “It is great to see that so many businesses are keen to find out more about science education. We are now keen to work with them to show how, together, we can help to develop the workforce of tomorrow.”
The five-storey, 35,000 sq ft building at Kings Point in the town centre will house 21 biology, chemistry, physics and electronics facilities with space available for use by educational establishments, community groups and local industry. The sixth form college has around 2,300 students and about 700 of these are involved in science-related subjects.
