Investors add fizz to alcopop firm

A NEW business launched by a former director of North West drinks importer Halewood Internatiional has been backed by three groups of angel investors.

Cumbria-based Turbo Drinks, has launched a new alcopop brand, Turbo, which is favourite of Tulisa from band N-Dubz, actor Danny Dyer and X-Factor winner Matt Cardle.

Its Original drink is a mixture of lager and alcoholic lemonade and has an ABV of 4%. It is he first product of what will become a range.

Director Nigel Tarn, who helped to launch the successful Crabbies Alcoholic Ginger Beer for Halewood International, said: “The consumer is very discerning and is looking for a new drink shown by the fall in sales of traditional RTD (ready to drink) products and the growth in alternative drinks like Crabbies.

“Our new drink offers another alternative which can sit either in a bottled lager fridge or an RTD fridge. This allows outlets to replace underperforming bottled beers with a drink that sells just as well as an RTD maximizing much needed profit margins.”

The drink is available in a number of bars, and is set to be rolled out across the country, and the company is also in talks to ship its product abroad this summer to major holiday resorts.

The deal for new investment from the unnamed investors was handled by law firm Lupton Fawcett and senior associate lawyer Andrew Francey, who is the company’s retained legal advisor.
