Gordon John Textiles buys manufacturing business

CURTAIN business Gordon John Textiles has bought Barnsley-based made to measure curtain manufacturer Style Furnishings (Sheffield) for an undisclosed sum.

The deal brings a bespoke curtain manufacturing capability to the Salford-based company, which already supplies curtain fabrics and readymade curtains to multiple retailers and small independent stores, and will complement its core design, source and distribution business.

Financed by the Barclays Commercial Finance team in Manchester the deal included trade finance, term loan facilities and transactional banking provided by Barclays Commercial Bank.

Andrew Dunn, finance director of Gordon John Textiles, said: “We were very impressed with the proactive approach taken by the Barclays team, their appetite to do business in the current challenging financial climate, the banks joined up approach and the professional manner in which the team delivered for us.”

Mike McDermott, who arranged the loan and is director of Barclays Commercial Finance, said: “This strategic acquisition represents an exciting phase in Gordon John Textiles development. The deal is a great example of Barclays continued strong appetite to provide funding to quality businesses in the region.”

Gordon John Textiles was established in 1976 before being acquired by Headlam plc in 1995.  In 2000 the management team completed a management buyout.
