Grafton Rooms and Olympia Hall up for sale

LIVERPOOL’S famous Grafton Rooms nightclub has been put up for sale for £1.75m.

The building also includes the Liverpool Olympia hall, which was built in 1905 by Edwardian theatre architect Frank Matchum, who also designed the Blackpool Tower.

The Grade II-listed building was originally designed as an indoor circus and variety theatre and contains one of the biggest auditoriums in the city – more than 2,000 people can be accommodated within its stalls.

The hall’s ornate interior reflects the building’s pasts, with elephant and lion figures set into the Indian panelling. The Grafton Ballrooms was added on as a dance hall and later became a nightclub.

It was closed in 2008 and was later refurbished and opened as a comedy club.

Linda Boyle of the Manchester Office of Christie + Co, who is handling the sale, said: “This is a most exciting instruction and I am pleased to act on behalf of the present owner, Mr Zorba, to sell both landmark properties.

“I look forward to generating a great deal of interest within the wider leisure sector as well as a possible opportunity for local developers.”

The total plot of land, including the car park, covers approximately two acres.
