Home Delivery Network wins Sainsbury’s contract

MERSEYSIDE’S Home Delivery Network – the UK’s largest home delivery and collection company – will be the principal delivery service for Sainsbury’s new online non-food business.
The appointment follows the recent news that the supermarket giant is taking on rivals Tesco and Asda with its own online non-food shop.
It will offer more than 8,000 products, two thirds of which will not be available in store.
Sainsbury’s will be using Home Delivery Network’s 24 and 48 hour services including the option for Saturday deliveries.
David James, head of non food logistics for Sainsbury’s, said: “The extension of our online proposition into non food requires us to provide our customers with a consistently high level of delivery service to the home as well as the ability for them to have their parcels delivered to suit their busy lifestyles.
“Having researched the market we believe that HDN are the market leader in both of these important areas.”
Brian Gaunt, chief executive of Home Delivery Network, said: “We look forward to helping Sainsbury’s grow their online proposition by making the home shopping experience as easy and rewarding for their customers as a visit to their local Sainsbury store.”
Home Delivery Network handles more than 120 million items each year. The Whiston-based company, a subsidiary of March UK, operates 50 parcel depots across the UK with two national sort centres in Shaw, Oldham and Droitwich in Worcestershire.
