Outdoor clothing sales soar as people holiday at home

AN internet outdoor clothing business that launched less than three months ago is already taking on more staff as sales fly on the back of people holidaying at home.

Ian Brookes, who launched Macclesfield-based OutdoorLook.co.uk in June this year, has said he is having to take on more staff to keep up with orders.

The company sells brands including Regatta, Craghoppers, Hi -Tec, Hawkshead and Helly Hansen with up to 75% off the recommended retail price.

Mr Brookes, who also owns a £2m turnover work wear and promotional clothing business, has funded the new business himself. Although he would not reveal turnover for OutdoorLook’s few months trading, Mr Brookes said it was 126% above his own targets.

Mr Brookes said: “We make bulk buy purchases, which allow us to offer a wide choice to customers. Plus, with us being solely an online and catalogue business we don’t have to cover the costs of hiring out retail outlets, which enables us to pass on bigger savings to our customers.”

OutdoorLook has 11 staff working out of its 16,000 sq ft warehouse, and has most recently taken on an online marketing executive to help grow the business further.

He added: “We’re continually growing the range of clothing we offer, and are committed to offering low prices that make it easier for people to get active.  By offering both the latest lines and end of clearance products, OutdoorLook is all about offering a wide choice of top quality brands at the best possible prices.”
