Plant hire firm replaces a third of its fleet

BURY-based contractor CHC has embarked on a major fleet renewal programme that will see 29 Volvo machines added to its fleet in 2011.

The plant hire specialist has bought a series of articulated dumptrucks, excavators and mini-excavators to add to its fleet – all of which have been purchased with a three-year repair and maintenance contract.

The machines have also been fitted with telematics equipment which not only tracks each vehicle’s location but also its fuel use.

CHC’s plant director Sean Isherwood said: “Volvo has shown the same can-do attitude that we like to show our customers.”

“Escalating fuel cost is becoming a very big issue to everyone and if we can use CareTrack to help cut-down on idle time, while monitoring how kit is being utilised, we can get closer to being 100 per cent efficient in everything we do.”

CHC was set up in 1966 and currently has more than 100 pieces of large operated plant, although it is predicting that this is set to grow at a rate of around 5% per year. In the year to July 30 last year, CHC’s apparent company turned over almost £22m.
