JLA reports busiest April

LIVERPOOL John Lennon Airport has said that passenger numbers hit a record high in April – thanks largely to the Easter and Royal Wedding bank holidays.
Airport chiefs said that that half a million passengers passed through during April, which was a 33% increase on last year, when volcanic ash played havoc with flights. Passenger numbers were 7% higher than busiest previous April in 2007.
Liverpool JLA is part of Peel Airports, which is 65% owned by Vancouver Airport Services and 35% by property company Peel. It said the additional holidays menat visitor numbers increased to levels usually only experienced during the peak of the Summer holiday season.
Peel Airports’ head of PR Robin Tudor said: “We knew passenger numbers this April would be significantly higher than last year, having seen over 100,000 passengers affected by the Icelandic volcano in April 2010, however this year’s bumper April holiday period saw volumes of passengers surpass even our expectations.
“The region’s holidaymakers clearly took advantage of the way the holiday periods fell.”
