Wine merchants cheer partnership

TWO North West wine merchants are raising a glass to a new partnership.

£5m turnover Salford-based Morgenrot has taken a “strategic investment” In Liverpool-based The Purple Wine Company.

The investment has allowed Purple Wine to extend its product range. Managing director Ian Clarke said: “This will boost our range across all price points, enabling us to bring added depth to our list and serve a wider portfolio of clients.

“It helps us target bigger contracts whilst giving Morgenrot more coverage in a part of the country where traditionally it is under-represented.”

Morgenrot managing director, Ray Flynn, said the deal also offered an attractive route in to the online.

“Purple Wine has a very sophisticated online capability which just made strategic sense. We want to grow our retail performance in a low-risk way and this investment allows that.”

“We’ve got a very sophisticated picking and packing operation in our Swinton headquarters and are geared up to handling the volumes that online retail can offer us,” Mr Flynn added.
