Council consults on future of Woodford site

STOCKPORT Council has begun a public exhibition to meet local businesses and residents at which they can express their views on the future for the Woodford Aerodrome site.
The council will be holding a series of public exhibitions in Woodford, Bramhall and Poynton during the next few weeks to gauge local opinion on future uses for the site, which defence firm BAE Systems announced would close next year following completion of the Nimrod project.
Councillor Kevin Hogg, executive member for regeneration at Stockport Council, said: “The redevelopment of the Woodford Aerodrome site is a significant issue for local people and we are determined to work alongside residents to ensure the best possible future for the site, as well as for existing communities.
“The next step is to talk to local people and develop a vision for the area which balances a range of different issues.
Once the consultation completes, a design workshop will be held in June to look at development options and a Supplementary Planning Document will be drawn up in the autumn, in which the council will spell out its preferred redevelopment of the site.
