New strategy for north Liverpool

A NEW 20-year plan to revitalise north Liverpool and south Sefton is set to be given the green light by Liverpool City Council’s cabinet on Friday.

The cabinet will be asked to formally endorse the Strategic Regeneration Framework for north Liverpool and south Sefton. It will look at how planned regeneration schemes such as Peel’s Liverpool Waters, St Modwen’s £150m Project Jennifer and the redevelopment of Everton and Liverpool Football clubs’ stadia can encourage economic growth and employment in the area.

A new steering group chaired by Liverpool Vision – containing representatives from Liverpool and Sefton Councils, Government Office for the North West and the Homes and Communities Agency – will oversee the delivery of strategy in the Anfield, Everton, County and Kirkdale wards of north Liverpool as well as the Derby and Linacre wards in south Sefton.

Cllr Malcolm Kennedy, Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said the framework would be “an invaluable tool for showcasing our shared vision for the area to potential developers, investors and the Government”.

The city council’s director for regeneration, Nick Kavanagh said: “North Liverpool remains the most deprived part of the city – yet it contains some of our most valuable assets. It’s vital that we work together to maximise these, attract investment and improve the lives of local people.”
