Cinema operator to light up New Brighton

THE Light Cinemas Group will this week take possession of a new £5.5m eight-screen digital cinema at Neptune Developments’ Marine Point scheme in New Brighton.

The Light’s founders, John Sullivan and Keith Pullinger, will now bring in Altrincham-based fitout firm GF Holdings to ensure the complex is ready for its official opening date in October. It is expected to employ 25 people.

Sullivan said that he believed that the type of cinema it was offering with a more varied programme than at standard multiplexes would help regeneration efforts in the area.

“The concept of The Light was born out of wanting to create a unique cinema offering to local communities, tailored to their own requirements,” he said.

“The Light Cinema New Brighton offers an inclusive experience targeting Wirral families, students, professionals and older members of the community. The Light will offer a range of onscreen content including Hollywood blockbusters and international films, broadcasts of 3D movies, live arts and sports programmes, film festival weeks, opera, theatre and concerts.

“Our goal is to challenge the limited programming and mediocre customer service which has become associated with the multiplex market.”

The Light opened its first cinema in Bucharest three years ago and is planning three further sites in Romania, one in Germany and one in Cambridgeshire.
