Professionals’ Capital appointment

PROFESSIONALS and investment chiefs are flying the flag for Manchester in London this week.;

They are the first delegation to visit the new Lord Mayor of the City of London, Nick Anstee, where the development of Manchester’s financial and professional sectors will be discussed.

Tomorrow, a party of 25 professionals from Manchester, together with guests from London, will have an exclusive lunch with the Lord Mayor.

The trip has been organised by inward investment agency, MIDAS, and financial and professional organisation, pro.manchester.

Manchester is the UK’s largest financial and professional services centre outside of London. It is also establishing its reputation as the European capital for lower to mid-market private equity.

The delegation includes senior Manchester Business School alumni and senior representatives from the Bank of New York Mellon, stockbroker Daniel Stewart, insurer Lockton, Anglo Irish Bank, Deloitte and Baker Tilly.

Mr Anstee said: “Manchester is the first UK City I have met with to discuss the coming year and I am glad it’s Manchester – one of the City’s key partners.

“Manchester is a vital part of the offering of the UK financial services sector, employing nearly a quarter of a million people across the range of banking, insurance (the largest outside London) law, accounting and other services.

“I hope that during these discussions we can examine further the ways in which I can assist to promote Manchester’s offering on the world stage and that we can work together to restore trust between society and the financial services industry.”

Colin Sinclair, chief executive of MIDAS, said: “We are of course delighted to be first on the agenda for the Lord Mayor of London’s UK city visits. We believe that the UK financial services sector can leverage the relationship between our two cities to help strengthen its financial markets as we move into more economically stable times.

John Ashcroft, chief executive of pro.manchester, added: “With a financial and professional community of more than 235,000 Manchester is a major player both nationally and globally. We have the largest cluster of private equity companies outside London.

“It is vital we continue to work closely with the Lord Mayor of the City of London to restore faith in the sector and work in partnership for the benefit of the economy.”
