Building briefs: Five new retailers The Lanes in Carlisle; Two more tenants at Pavilions
FIVE new retailers have taken space at The Lanes Shopping Centre in Carlisle.
Milkshake brand Shakeway is to take space in the centre’s prime pitch on Peascod Lane, having completed a new 10-year lease.
Publishers Books has also recently opened in unit 33 on Grapes Lane, adjacent to Laura Ashley, while Calendar Club, a regular short-term tenant at The Lanes over the Christmas period, has taken the former Bay Trading unit on Grapes Lane which it will occupy until the New Year.
Two Cumbrian businesses are also taking space at the centre. Appleby Bakery has recently opened Taste Christmas, offering locally baked cakes and treats, and New Seasons, a Carlisle-based seasonal retailer has opened in unit 51 on Central Square.
Joint agents DTZ and Strutt & Parker advised owner Aviva Life & Pensions on the lettings. Tom Prescott, retail surveyor at DTZ, said: “The successful completion of these new lettings at The Lanes demonstrates the centre’s popularity with expanding retailers, even in this difficult economic climate.
“The blend of strong national brands and high quality local tenants provides a great tenant mix for customers, which in turn drives footfall and creates an environment where retailers continue to profit.”
The Lanes Shopping Centre is a 450,000 sq ft retail and leisure scheme, anchored by a 106,000 sq ft Debenhams and 56,000 sq ft BHS. Oter retailers include Next, H&M, Miss Selfridge, Monsoon, HMV and New Look.

MILLER Developments’ The Pavilions office development in Knutsford has two new tenants. occupiers.
UPA Limited has acquired the freehold of Unit 5, which totals 4,090 sq ft, in a deal which equates to £185 per sq ft.
In a second transaction, MMI Group has taken a ten-year lease, with a break at year five, on 2,745 sq ft of space in Unit 4.
Richard Stokes from Jones Lang LaSalle, joint leasing agents on the scheme with GVA Grimley, said: “The Pavilions, Knutsford, is the first speculative scheme of its type in the area and, with 90% of the offices occupied, its success has proved Miller Developments’ confidence in the Knutsford market was well placed.
“We are currently talking to a number of interested parties about the 2,745 sq ft of space which is now left remaining on the scheme.”
