BASF upgrades Swinton site

GERMAN chemicals giant BASF has reopened its Swinton site following a multi-million pound investment.
The company has added a new state-of-the-art liquids production unit and an upgraded powder plant which it said would transform the plant’s production capability.
The liquid plant produces technologically advanced admixture systems for use in various ready mix and pre-cast concrete products, wile to powder plant produces advanced cement mortars used in repairs, grouts, and waterproofing products.
Environmental improvements have also been made including more energy-efficient buildings, a new laboratory and a “zero loss” facility which has eliminated effluent from the site and improved rainwater drainage to prevent the risk of flooding.
Chris Fletcher, head of BASF’s UK construction chemicals division, said: “The redevelopment shows our long-term commitment to our customers within the construction industry in the UK as well as the Salford area.
“This facility contributes to the development and production of new construction products for sustainable building.”
