Salad days for Wirral start-up after £50,000 win

WIRRAL-based start-up company SaladBowl has pocketed £50,00 in prize money from high street bank Barclays after winning its “Take One Small Step” competition.

SaladBowl was one of nine regional winners which has been awarded cash to help fund their business ideas. Barclays will also provide free support and advice to SaladBowl’s co-founders Matthew Cole (who only graduated from university on Monday) and Adam Mayers.

Cole said: “I have always wanted to start my own business, be my own boss and be in control.

“I decided to enter the competition because I have had this idea for two and a half years and wanted to start the business as soon as I could. We came across this competition online and the financial benefits were too good to ignore.”

SaladBowl will be a fast-food restaurant chain offering affordable salads with more than 50 toppings and 15 different dressings.
