Plans for Ordsall towers refused

BREDALE Developments’ plan to build a huge mixed-use scheme in Ordsall containing two large towers has been refused.
Councillors rejected the company’s application to build a mixed-use scheme based around a 24-storey and a 15-storey tower which was to contain a 204-bed hotel, 54 aparthotel suites, 132 apartments, 150,000 sq ft of offices, 13,000 sq ft of leisure and around 8,000 sq ft of retail.
The guidance from Salford City Council’s own planning officers was to approve the scheme, but councillors rejected the application over concerns that the 1.35-acre site next to the Exchange Quay Metrolink station would be overdeveloped. Concerns were also raised that the developers had made insufficient provision for onsite parking.
Sebastian Tibenham of Pegasus Plannning Group, which advised Bredale on the scheme, said that his client would await receipt of the formal decision notice from Salford City Council within the next few days before deciding on the next course of action.
However, he indicated that an appeal was likely.
