People on the move: Manchester Central; Cumbria Tourism; Addleshaw Goddard

Shaun Hinds has joined conference and events venue, Manchester Central as its chief executive.

Hinds previously led international operations at BridgeStreet Global Hospitality and has more than 25 years’ experience working across hospitality, property and business service sectors.

He said: “I’m incredibly proud to be joining the team at Manchester Central.  My initial focus is to ensure a seamless transition of leadership so that our fantastic team can continue to deliver world-class events for our clients and visitors; supporting the city’s – and the UK’s – message that we remain open for business despite recent events.

“This year marks a significant milestone for Manchester Central, as we celebrate 10 years of success; which is a really exciting time join the company. I’m looking forward to immersing myself in all things Manchester Central, meeting our clients, stakeholders and partners who are fundamental to the continuing growth of our business.”

His appointment comes after previous CEO Angie Robinson retired from full-time employment.

Cumbria Tourism – the official destination marketing organisation for the county’s £2.72bn tourism industry – has confirmed the appointment of its new managing director.

Tom Newbould, who will take the helm this July, is an experienced marketing professional and has wide-ranging experience of leadership, management and delivery in a variety of public and private sector posts at Director and Board level.

He has recently held senior roles in the consumer finance sector. His other previous roles include director of marketing and communications at not-for-profit education and training group, NCG and European digital marketing director for Attends Healthcare Group, as well as positions at the BBC and PwC.

He also has an extensive track-record in marketing and digital communications, public affairs and stakeholder engagement, having dealt with Ministers and senior politicians at the highest levels of government.

Newbould, who has lived with his family in the Eden Valley in Cumbria for a number of years, is a governor at Asby Endowed School, Great Asby.

He will take charge at a time of significant change for Cumbria Tourism, as it focuses on the delivery of destination marketing and support services for the Cumbrian visitor economy.

Addleshaw Goddard has further strengthened its transport and energy teams with the hire of top projects lawyer Ursula Gould.

The latest in a series of targeted senior lateral hires, Gould joins the firm’s Manchester office from Shoosmiths where she was a partner for the last five years and she will bolster AG’s already strong transport and projects offering.

Working on a wide range of domestic and international matters, she brings more th\n 25 years’ experience advising on high value, complex and cross border contracts, for both public and private-sector clients.

With particular expertise in transport and infrastructure projects, particularly light and heavy rail mandates, Gould’s credentials include advising on high value, complex and cross border contracts, for both public and private-sector clients.
