Listen now: North West Dealcast – value and multiples

L-R Matt Pomroy, Peter Terry and Ben Reeves

How do private equity companies add value to their portfolio companies? What changes do they make? And when it’s time sell, what is your company worth?

These are some of the questions discussed in episode two of TheBusinessDesk.com‘s Dealcast.

Launched earlier this year, in association with leading business advisers Grant Thornton, the quarterly podcast takes a look at the state of play in the regional deals market.

Each episode also delves into the intricacies of the sharp end of corporate finance, and examines the factors making the North West, arguably the most active market outside of London.

Today’s show sees Matt Pomroy, investment manager at leading infrastructure and private equity investor, Foresight Group; and Ben Reeves, managing director of rapidly expanding, retailer, Clubhouse Golf, join Peter Terry, partner and head of corporate finance in the North West at Grant Thornton, and episode host, Jonathan Daly, from Influential.

One of the UK’s fastest-growing sellers of golf equipment, clothing and accessories, Clubhouse received £4m backing from Foresight earlier in the year.

The investment has seen the Manchester-headquartered retailer strengthen key brand relationships and expand internationally through its online platform www.clubhousegolf.co.uk.

The business has also appointed Richard Styles, founder of online retailer Kitbag, as non-executive chairman.

Listen below to find out why finding a quality management team is all important for Matt. And why, for Ben, an initial shock to the system has resulted in a more professional and ultimately more valuable business.
