Weekender: Bolton homelessness charities roll in the New Year with £11k donation

Bolton’s homelessness charities have received a donation of almost £11,000 worth of toilet and kitchen rolls from private label paper supplier Northwood & WEPA.
Tackling different aspects of the town’s homelessness and poverty challenges, the six organisations – Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme (BYPHS), Emmaus, Benjamin Court, Endeavour Project, Fortalice and Urban Outreach – and the vulnerable people they each support will all benefit from the donation.
Bolton-based Northwood & WEPA is a major supporter of local community initiatives and charity organisations that offer invaluable services to the town, and these charities are all prime examples of this.
Maura Jackson, chief executive of BYPHS, said: “Part of the vital work we do is to support young people in their day-to-day lives, ensuring they are equipped and empowered to live independently in the future.
“Our residents are often left with less than £10 per week after they’ve bought essentials, such as toilet roll, so Northwood & WEPA’s kind donation will help to ease the strain for the young people in our care.
“Working in partnership with our fellow homelessness charities allows us to share donations of this kind to create a much greater impact upon the people we support. We’re extremely grateful for such a significant boost to our service as we start 2018.”
Northwood & WEPA says it is committed to ensuring it has a positive impact on the communities where it operates.
Supply chain manager Dave McFarlane said: “With our head office in Bolton, we really wanted to give something back to invaluable organisations in the town.
“The Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme has been working tirelessly with vulnerable youngsters for the past 26 years and we wanted to show our support for this heroic service by donating what many of us take for granted.
“The fact that our donation could be spread out amongst even more fantastic charities really is the icing on the cake.”
Donating more than 21,000 toilet and kitchen rolls to the six charities, Northwood & WEPA hopes to support them in their vital work with those facing homelessness and poverty in the town.
Northwood & WEPA has its commercial headquarters in Bolton and supplies more than 600 million toilet and kitchen paper rolls to the UK retail sector per year.
