Real estate company Renaker has topped out the iconic 44-storey 100 Greengate scheme, formerly known as Exchange Court, the tallest building in Salford.

Representatives from Homes England including chief investment officer Gordon More and head of infrastructure & complex projects Neil Milligan, along with representatives from Salford City Council including mayor Paul Dennett and chief executive Jim Taylor, were joined by many of the build team including young apprentices working on the project thanks to young people’s training and development schemes.

They gathered up 44 floors and 130 metres high on the roof of the scheme which has reached the highest point in the project’s build, which to date has used 20,000 tons of concrete.

100 Greengate will complete in early 2019 delivering first class amenity and 349 new high-quality homes to the fast-changing area of Greengate.

Situated at the border of the two cities of Salford and Manchester, the area continues to be transformed from an area of low level car parking to new desirable city centre district and community.

Financial support of £33m from Homes England has enabled Renaker to deliver the landmark scheme providing significant employment and training opportunities for local people.

Meanwhile, BAM is in talks to take Carillion’s place to build a major office job in the Greengate area in Salford according to Construction Enquirer.

Carillion was preferred bidder for the 100 Embankment office development on the site of the old Manchester Exchange railway station after completing the first sister block at 101 Embankment at the start of 2017.

Developer Ask Real Estate – owned by Carillion until it was bought by Midlands developer the Richardson family a year ago – is believed to be in talks with the contractor with view to a spring start.

Renaker says it is working closely with Salford City Council on the emerging masterplan for the area which will see the creation of new homes, a new city park and an attractive thriving boulevard providing a new city centre destination in a key regeneration target area.

The scheme comprises a selection of one, two and three-bedroom apartments and has reached a towering 44 storeys making it the tallest building in the City of Salford.

Daren Whitaker, managing director, Renaker Build, said: “Following the success of our 497-home Greengate One development, 100 Greengate is our second aspirational development in what is shaping up to become a culturally rich and diverse new city centre neighbourhood.

“We very much appreciate the continued support of both Homes England and Salford City Council, which is key to our future ambitions for regeneration and development.”

Dennett said: “It is wonderful to see this high-quality development reach a significant milestone in its construction – and particularly important to see the apprentices who are working on Renaker’s site share the moment.”

Gordon More, chief investment officer at Homes England, said: “This topping out shows the difference our loans can make in helping build more homes, more quickly. Our loan of £33m has helped Renaker expand to provide 349 more homes for local people.”
