Bodycote opens specialist plant in Rotherham

Specialist heat treatment group Bodycote is to open a new facility in Rotherham, it announced today.

The Macclesfield-based organisation is opening a state-of-the-art plant to serve aerospace and power generation supply chains, in the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham.

This will support the aerospace and power generation markets in the UK and Europe.

Simon Blantern, vice president of sales Europe for Bodycote’s Aerospace, Defence & Energy heat treatment division, said: “This investment demonstrates Bodycote’s continuing commitment to align resources to serve both the aerospace and power generation markets.”

The new facility, which will be fully operational in 2018, will offer a number of heat treatment processes.

Bodycote is the world’s largest provider of heat treatment and specialist thermal processing services.

In April this year it signed a 15-year contract with Rolls-Royce’s civil aerospace business worth £160m.

This involved Bodycote providing thermal processing services, which include specialised vacuum heat treatment and hot isostatic pressing Rolls-Royce’s turbine blade casting facilities in Derby and Rotherham.

The deal will support the growth of Rolls-Royce’s large civil engine programme – these include the Trent XWB, Trent 1000, Trent 7000, Trent 700 and Trent 900 engines.

Bodycote’s core business is providing services that protect and improve the properties of metals and alloys, extending their operational life and making them safer. The company plays a vital role in the aerospace supply chain.

Bodycote has more than 180 accredited facilities in 23 countries.
