Salford Quays leisure and retail centre to get £26m facelift

A shopping and leisure complex in Salford Quays is to get a £26m facelift.

Plans have been announced which will see a new waterside dining concept introduced at the Lowry Outlet Mall.

The scheme, called The Watergardens, will see a number of new restaurants opened and a waterfront promenade created.

The Lowry Centre has views across the Manchester Ship Canal and is a short walk from Media City.

The upgrade will include improvements between the the Millennium Bridge and the Lowry Outlet mall.

Architects Chapman Taylor have drawn up a scheme which is designed to incorporates nature into the development.

The owners of the centre The Peel Group says it has been planning to upgrade its dinning offering since buying the centre from Emerson for £70m in 2012.

Jason Pullen, managing director of Lifestyle Outlets said: “The redevelopment will transform the southern waterside of the Lowry Outlet, allowing people to relax and dine with some of the finest waterfront views.

“When the work is complete, the Lowry Outlet will be a unique shopping and leisure destination that will draw people from across the region to Salford Quays and MediaCityUK.”

Before a planning application is submitted to Salford City Council Lifestyle Outlets will unveil its plans at a public consultation.

The exhibition is being at the exhibition suite, opposite the Clarks Outlet store on the ground floor of the Lowry Outlet.
