Digital ID joins forces to become world’s largest ID card company

Digital ID, the Stockport-based ID card company, has been acquired for an undiscosed sum by US-based AlphaCard Systems.
The deal with the Portland, Oregon company, will see the creation of the world’s largest ID card company, and the creation of 40 UK jobs.
Established in 1998, AlphaCard Systems is the largest ID card company in the US, specialising in the supply of photo ID card printers, consumables and ID software to a well-established end-user client base.
With the addition of Digital ID the group now employs 360 staff in offices located in 11 cities around the globe.
Jonathan Fell, managing director of Digital ID Group, said: “The opportunity to join forces with AlphaCard Systems was an opportunity we couldn’t turn down.
“AlphaCard has an excellent reputation in the industry, an impressive team of staff and a fantastic client base.
“This acquisition enables us to rapidly evolve our growth strategy, which, in part, has been fuelled by the launch of our own advanced ID card design software, EasyBadge, and we’re excited to push this to the US market.”
He added: “The partnership will see us create around 40 new jobs, taking the business from 60 employees to 100-strong over the next three years.”
Todd Muscato, senior vice president of AlphaCard Systems, said: “AlphaCard has seen tremendous growth over the last few years, fuelled by the launch of a new and innovative line of ID card printers, the AlphaCard PRO series.
“It’s taken a lot of hard work and talented people to achieve the results we’ve seen in the US, and we are thrilled to be in a position to expand our brand globally.
“Myself and the team look forward to working with the team at Digital ID and the benefits we will experience from working alongside their ambitious and fast-growing organisation.”
The Digital ID Group, which was launched in 1990 and is the UK’s largest ID card company, is on track to achieve 20% organic growth in 2018, with an anticipated turnover of £22m.
