Building work is set to start at the new £1m Liverpool Gin Distillery on Castle Street next Tuesday, August 28.

The new city centre distillery is being opened by Huyton-based Halewood Wines & Spirits for its Liverpool Gin brand and will include with two bars – a premium gin and spirits bar on the ground floor and a premium dark spirits bar at basement level – a specially-designed Gin Lab where visitors can make the spirit themselves, and a Bartender School.

Guests will also be able to see Liverpool Gin being made in a 600-litre working copper still.

Liverpool Gin Distillery’s general manager, Emily Kelly, and assistant general manager, Rebecca Haycox, have been working closely with Warrington architects and interior designers, DV8 Designs, to finalise the design, fixtures and fittings across all four floors of the Grade II-listed building.

Contractors, Medlock FRBm from Oldham, will be on-site on Tuesday and will finish work in time for a November launch.

Emily Kelly, general manager at Liverpool Gin Distillery, said: “This is such an exciting time. We can’t wait to get to work on the distillery and see it all coming together.

“We’re delighted to be offering lots of employment opportunities in the city and are now in the process of training staff to offer a first-class experience for locals, and visitors alike.

“Liverpool Gin is much loved throughout the city and we’ve had amazing feedback since the announcement of the new distillery. There is a real buzz in the air about the redevelopment and all it will have to offer.”

A big part of the development will be played by Liverpool Gin itself, which includes Liverpool Gin, Liverpool Gin Valencian Orange, Liverpool Gin Rose Petal and new Liverpool Gin Lemongrass and Ginger, with its unusual blend of oriental fruits and spices.

Emily added: “Innovating and developing the Liverpool Gin range will be a big part of what we’re doing at the distillery, so watch this space for more exciting new flavours and limited-edition gins.”
