Passengers warned to expect delays due to rail strikes across the region

Rail services

Rail passengers have been warned to be prepared for a series of strikes over the next five weekends.

The RMT union has announced a series of planned strikes on consecutive Saturdays.

A spokesman for Northern said: “We are concentrating our efforts on running as many services as possible to keep our customers moving and will publish details of timetables for each of these days of RMT strike action as soon as we have them.

“On Saturday 1 September – the second Saturday of RMT strike action – we will operate a reduced timetable with very few trains running before 9am and after 6pm.

“Unfortunately, on some routes, we won’t be able to run services, while others will have a limited service. On those routes where we are able to operate trains, we expect all services to be extremely busy.

“We will also have replacement bus services available on some routes where trains aren’t running.”

A full route map showing where services will – or will not – be running can be found here.

All customers are advised to check before travelling and, where necessary, may want to seek alternative modes of transport.

Across the north of England there are a number of major events taking place this weekend and people are being warned to make alternative arrangements.

Events affected include:

Blackpool Illuminations/Britney Spears at Blackpool

  • PRESTON to BLACKPOOL SOUTH – One train per hour to and from Preston – last train from Blackpool South is at 18:49
  • PRESTON TO BLACKPOOL NORTH – Two buses per hour to and from Preston with some trains from Blackpool North. Last train to Preston is at 19:36
  • LIVERPOOL – No direct trains or rail replacement buses to and from Liverpool
